K11 Art Mall Façade Design
Ningbo, China | 2016-2024
K11 Art Mall is part of the current Ningbo New World development project located in the central business district of Sanjiangkou (Three Rivers Junction) in Ningbo, China. The entire project comprises office space, high-end residences, a hotel, the Art Mall, a central park and leisure avenues.
The Art Mall’s façade was designed to generate the rich and diverse public urban life that will soon take place behind it. The design aims to unify the overall development while simultaneously permitting individual expression of the many events taking place within. This is done through façade built up of a rhythmic series of organically shaped modules that play with geometry, material, texture, colour, and light. These modules morph and change in expression as they wrap around the four interconnected building plots. Undulating mullions frame the many diverse street side window fronts and guide views in between lush green façade elements to the upper floors, where an elegantly shingled façade skin is tensioned in between the linework. Colours and patterns respond to geometry and light to create a sense of familiarity and allurement.
